James Hayman Brings His International Photography to Paris with Studio Abba & OpenArtCode for exhibition ART CAPITAL 2022

Paris, France – Emmy nominated, Golden Globe winning director, producer, and photographer James Hayman joins other international artists in the OpenArtCode group, organized by Studio Abba, exhibiting at ART CAPITAL, in the Salon des Artistes Indépendants, at the Grand Palais Ephémère in Paris from February 15 – 20, 2022.

Hayman, who began his career in photojournalism and film, will exhibit multiple photographs that span time and locations around the world. These photographs are emblematic of the visual storytelling present in all of Hayman’s work exploring human connection, aspiration, and inclusivity.

The 22 artists that represent the OpenArtCode group this year express themselves using many different techniques including painting, photography and sculpture/installation. There are 7 new artists in the Paris 2022 edition, including James Hayman, who is based in Los Angeles. His photojournalistic roots influence his photos taken in Asia, Central and North America. For his career as a director he has been nominated for two Emmy Awards and has won a Golden Globe Award.

The OpenArtCode group exhibited for the first time together in Paris in 2009, and every year the group has since returned to show in this exhibition that attracts more than 40,000 visitors, as the largest meeting of artists in France. The Société des Artistes Indépendants (Society of Independent Artists), created in 1884, had among its members Cézanne, Gauguin and Toulouse-Lautrec. Due to closure of the Grand Palais for renovation, a new impressive temporary structure has been built to house ART CAPITAL close to the Tour Eiffel: Grand Palais Ephémère.

A limited edition catalogue of the OpenArtCode Paris 2022 exhibition will be distributed during the exhibition and for the first time. It will be possible to also get to know the artists and their works on display thanks to a virtual exhibition, curated by Vito Abba, director of Studio Abba. This virtual exhibition takes place in the metaverse and it can already be viewed in customized gallery spaces on Spatial.

About James Hayman

James Hayman is a photographer, director and producer based in Los Angeles.

After attending The American University for photojournalism, Hayman’s first photography assignment was to photograph the Nixon and Brezhnev Summit at the White House. Disenchanted with the paparazzi-like frenzy, Hayman went on to study film at the University of  California, Santa Barbara, and post graduate work at New York University, though his photojournalistic roots still inform his practice today.

He worked for the UN’s disaster relief efforts after the 1976 earthquake in Guatemala, which led to several photographic series in Central America. In the 1980s, Hayman began shooting various independent films in New York City and then worked as a cinematographer in China, Japan, and more photographic series documenting Asia.

In 1989, he moved to Los Angeles to direct and  produce multiple television shows and films. Since then, he has directed numerous pilots, including Dangerous Minds and Drop Dead Diva, as well as episodes of The Sopranos, ER, Law & Order, House, Desperate Housewives, and others. He has worked as an executive producer, most notably on Ugly Betty, which led to winning a Golden Globe Award. He has also been nominated for two Emmy Awards and a Director’s Guild Award.
