You are cordially invited to Delusions of the Wild, a solo exhibition by contemporary artist Alexandra Houx Grounds, which introduces new and never-before-seen paintings of personal transformation and warped realities. A visual reflection of Grounds’ career, the exhibition will include all original works from the past year.

In Delusions of the Wild, Grounds prods the delicate space between what is personal and what is social. That space–a world full of vivid fantasies, intimate reflections, and a love for pop culture–pulses within many of her earlier works and serves as an accelerating force for Grounds’ future work and inspirations. As a young female artist in New York City, Grounds evokes the concerns of her past work with newfound tension. The personal and social become entangled in paintings that borrow from the surreal and grotesque, but they never venture too far from Grounds’ exacting style. The immediate environment and all those caught up in it provide ample material for her meditations on femininity and youth culture. Her generation, magnified through her signature portraiture, is allowed to share in her particular outlook on our bodies and the roles they inhabit in her dreamlike world.

With a distinctive hyperrealism, Grounds’ large-scale paintings depict female empowerment as something powerfully untamed. Delusions of the Wild is familiar in style to those who have been following this flourishing artist, but the series also pushes into new spaces where figurative realism reaches beyond the very limits of reality.
